PRESS BRIEFING ON COVID19

Mbarara District Covid -19 Task Force held a press Briefing on the status quo of Covid -19 in Mbarara district as at May 08, 2020. It was noted that :
●New presidential directive of wearing face mask while in public places is to be enforced with immediate effect.
●Over 150 samples have so far been collected, sent to Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) and they all tested negative for Covid-19.
●Random sample collection for testing from market traders, motorcyclists, medical workers, Police, Army among others has been done, awaiting results and is an ongoing exercise.
● Every patient can only have one attendant so as to minimize congestion and disease spread in case of a Covid -19 positive case.
●Market traders who did not adhere to the presidential directive of sleeping in the market are not to be allowed in the market.
●The Task Force received 59.5 tonnes of posho and rice from donations and almost all of it has already been distributed to the vulnerable. 500 small sacks of posho are still available of which 200 will be distributed to people with disabilities on May 11, 2020.
●There is complacency among masses as regards to washing hands and sanitizing.
